Nelson Delgado Jr.

"I was never meant to fit into the world as it is. I was meant to assist in creating the world as it could be"

My Story

Nelson Delgado Jr. – Biography

Nelson Delgado Jr. is an artist whose work is deeply rooted in resilience, reinvention, and a relentless pursuit of connection. Born in Cuba, his artistic journey began under the guidance of his grandfather and father, who taught him classical techniques, helping him refine the natural gift he was born with.

After immigrating to the U.S., he was placed in art school, where his talent quickly earned him a spot in Miami’s prestigious High School Magnet Arts Program. There, he immersed himself in painting, printmaking, illustration, and figure drawing, laying the foundation for his artistic identity. However, his creative curiosity led him beyond traditional fine arts, drawing him into the worlds of fashion and architecture—two disciplines that would later influence his unique approach to art.

He later attended Design & Architecture Senior High School (DASH), where he combined his love for art and fashion to organize a fundraising event supporting children born with HIV. This initiative marked the beginning of his passion for using art as a vehicle for community impact, setting the stage for his lifelong dedication to creating meaningful experiences through his work.

Through many events and exhibitions, his biggest triumph was ART. Keeping the World Moving, a project where 60 artists from around the United States united by donating one art piece each to raise funds for children in need of prosthetics. This event was inspired by the passing of his best friend, whose memory and legacy became the driving force behind the fundraiser.

Following this, Nelson moved to Houston, where he encountered a battle with cancer —challenges that forced him to confront his own path. Yet, through these trials, he remained a builder—of experiences, artistic movements, and moments that mattered. Despite dedicating himself to others, he never fully gave himself the space to develop his own body of work. Now, he stands at the threshold of his most personal chapter, finally cancer free and claiming the time to create for himself.

His art is an interplay of structure and emotion, where classical training meets raw experimentation. His Cuban heritage, the energy of Miami, and the lessons of reinvention pulse through his work, blending nostalgia with the urgency of the present. Textured, immersive, and deeply intentional, his pieces invite engagement beyond mere observation—they demand to be felt.

Despite everything he has endured, his purpose remains unwavering: to give back, to create spaces where art is accessible to all, and to push the boundaries of what art can be. And with this new chapter, his work is not just about self-expression; it is about building something greater than himself—something that will continue to resonate long after the moment of creation has passed.
